Michigan Made Wine and Chocolate Gift Basket
Two bottles of premium Northern Michigan wines, the 2013 Cadia and the 2015 Missing Spire Riesling, paired with a selection of Charles Layton Truffles and packed in a handcrafted Michigan Made crate.
2013 Cadia is a Cabernet Franc/Merlot blend grown from just two acres near the old Gill's Pier Settlement north of Leland. Our winemaker has been working with this site since its planting in 2002. The dark fruit carries a powerful acid and tannin profile that required 1.5 years of aging in a combination of new and used French Oak barrels. The barrel contribution showing now bodes well for the structure of the wine as fruit continues to intensify over time. Aging window- 5-10 years.
Riesling is often discarded by nouveau wine geeks because they think they should be critical of all things sweet and that all Riesling is sweet. Both assumptions are silly. This point is often raised when talking about dry Rieslings, but it is more relevant when talking about a naturally sweet Riesling. Sugar is the most critical portion of the grape and leaving some in the wine is an art.
